ARCHIVED - Spanish media company trolls Netflix, Amazon, HBO and Disney with giant billboard in Madrid
Atresmedia has publicly slammed the big 4 online TV platforms for including advertising
The large, on-demand internet television platforms like Netflix, HBO, Amazon Prime Video and Disney Plus all started out with a great advantage over conventional, linear or free-to-air television – they had no advertising.
And didn’t they just make a song and dance about it, flouting their superiority to traditional television and saying they would never show ads on their platforms.
But now that is changing, and most of these platforms already include advertising in one form or another or are going to include it soon, as announced by Netflix, for example, which will have a low-cost version that will include ads.
That’s why Spanish media giant Atresmedia, one of the biggest conventional TV companies in Spain, which owns channels like Antena 3, La Sexta, Mega and the online Atresplayer, has now lambasted Netflix and co. with a huge billboard in the centre of Madrid.

The enormous ad, which covers the entire side of one whole building in the Plaza Pedro Zerolo square in Madrid, one of the most central squares in the capital, reads: “This is a message from Atresmedia Television to all those who said they would not broadcast advertising: Welcome to TV!”
The funniest thing is that this phrase is written in the different fonts and colours used by platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO and Disney, in that order.
In addition, the poster included even more jokes: “We have been making brands and content coexist for more than thirty years. And that has made us the leading television channel in our country. We believe that competition makes us better, so if you have any doubts or need any advice, you can write to us.”
They then supply a contact email address, ComoLlegarA20MillonesDePersonasCadaDia@tresmediatv.com, which translates to HowToReach20MillionPeopleEveryDay@tresmediatv.com.
