Storm Oscar delays the arrival of summer: Spain weather forecast June 8-11
The storm will weaken over the weekend but most of Spain can still expect lots of showers
Spain has gone from one extreme to another these past months. March and April were more like mid-summer, breaking heat records up and down the country and just when the weather should be settling, Storm Oscar has blustered in under a wave of torrential rain and abnormally low temperatures.
Sadly, it looks set to be yet another damp, breezy but rather mild weekend. While the storm will begin to peter out from Friday, most of the country will still be hit by showers, particularly in the afternoon, although the mercury should begin to rise as the days go on thanks to the arrival of a warm air mass from North Africa.
Oscar swooped in on Wednesday, hitting the Canary Islands especially hard, where driving rain and gale-force winds have been reported. The eye of the storm is located off the coast of Lisbon on Thursday June 8 and will send a cold front across to Spain from early morning, resulting in rainfall in a good part of the country.
Daytime temperatures will drop in the southwest and in the Canary Islands but should rise a couple of degrees in the rest of the country. The greatest difference will be noticed in the southeast where many provinces will hit the high 20s.
The wind will be light and from the south for the most part, but could be more intense along the west coast.
Yellow weather alert for heavy rain and storms: Andalucia, Asturias, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, Galicia, the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community.

Alicante: 18ºC; 26ºC
Málaga: 20ºC; 24ºC
Murcia: 16ºC; 30ºC
Although the storm will begin to lose steam on Friday June 9, the rainfall will continue in a large part of the country in the afternoon. The showers will avoid much of the Mediterranean area and the Canary Islands will finally enjoy a reprieve as the downpours lessen in strength. The temperatures will continue to climb across the board but they’ll remain in the normal range for this time of year.
Friday night will almost certainly be warm and muggy in most of the southern Mediterranean capitals, with minimum temperatures failing to dip far below 20ºC.

Murcia: 18ºC; 31ºC
Still under some influence from Oscar, Saturday June 10 will start out overcast and showery in central and northern Spain, although the rain will be nowhere near as heavy as previous days. The rest of the country and the Balearic Islands will dawn much clearer, with episodes of medium and high clouds forecast for the day. Afternoon showers and occasional storms haven’t been ruled out in the south but the weather will vastly improve in the Canary Islands, where only light and occasional rain is expected on mountainous islands later in the day.
The mercury will shoot up in southern and inland Spain, touching 30ºC in many areas.
No weather alerts have been issued for Saturday.

Málaga: 20ºC; 30ºC
Murcia: 20ºC; 34ºC
Very little change is expected on Sunday June 11, when cloudy skies and afternoon showers and storms will make another appearance in northern Spain. It will be largely cloudy throughout the day in the east of the country, where scattered showers are also forecast. The southwest and the Balearic Islands will remain mostly bright and clear.
Cloudy intervals in the Canary Islands, without ruling out some weak and occasional precipitation on the mountainous islands.
Temperatures will rise again for the most part, although the mercury will drop ever so slightly along the Levante coast.
No weather warnings have been issued for Sunday.
