Stormy week ahead with more comfortable temperatures: Spain weather forecast Sept 11-14
Widespread showers and stormy intervals are forecast across Spain this week, although the weather will remain mild
The remnants of ex-hurricane Franklin resulted in torrential rain and devastating storms in Central and northern Spain over the weekend but in the coming days the weather front will weaken somewhat, although the outlook remains unstable for the entire week. Rainfall in the northwest could extend to the Mediterranean coast later in the week and towards the final stretch, a new DANA off the coast of Portugal could wreak havoc in large parts of Spain.
Over the next few days, the heaviest rainfall should be confined to regions like Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and Navarra and be less abundant further south, although approaching storms late on Monday and Tuesday will likely bring suspended dust and muddy rain to the southeast of the country and the Balearic Islands.
The week will be warm in practically all of Spain, with temperatures between 1 and 3ºC above normal for this time of year in the entire southern, eastern and northern parts of the country.
Monday September 11
Cloudy skies and heavy rainfall will predominate in much of northern Spain, spreading weakly into central areas and the southeast later in the afternoon. The day will be marked by cloudy intervals throughout with the threat of light showers.
Daytime temperatures will drop across the board with the exception of the Mediterranean.
Yellow weather warning for heavy rain and/or storms: Andalucia, Aragón, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Castilla y Leon, Region of Murcia, Navarra, Basque Country, La Rioja.
Tuesday September 12
The stormy weather will continue in northern Spain and will extend to eastern communities and the Balearic Islands as the day goes on. There will be few changes to the daytime temperatures but the mercury could rise by a couple of degrees in the west.
Yellow weather warning for heavy rain and/or storms: Aragon, Catalonia, Valencian Community.
Wednesday September 13
Wednesday will be mostly overcast in the Balearic Islands and on the Andalucian Atlantic coast, while cloudy intervals and stormy showers are forecast on the Catalan, Valencian and Balearic coasts. This could be accompanied by afternoon haze in the southeast, which will lead to muddy rainfall in places.
No change is expected to the minimum temperatures but the thermometers will fall during the day in eastern Spain and along Andalucia’s Mediterranean coast.
There are no weather warnings in place for Wednesday.
Thursday September 14
Cloudy intervals and occasionally strong storms will mark the start of Thursday in the west of the Balearic Islands, eastern Andalucia, Murcia and the Valencian Community while weaker rain could make an appearance in the rest of the southeast. As the days goes on the cloudiness will increase inland and in eastern Andalucia.
Daytime temperatures will continue to decrease in the Balearic Islands and the southeastern third of the country while increasing elsewhere, and the night will be noticeably warmer in large areas of inland and southern Spain.
There are no weather warnings in place for Thursday.
