ARCHIVED - Summer temperatures and sunny skies continue: Spain weather Apr 17-20
Dry and sunny weather will prevail in most of Spain over the coming days
Towards the end of last week, storm Noa passed over northern Spain bringing plenty of rain and overcast skies but as this squall peters out, it will once again give way to temperatures more usual for June than April. The next few days will be sunny and warm in most of the country, an outlook meteorologists believe will last for the remainder of the month.
Monday April 17 will bring some cloudy intervals to the Balearic Islands and the Cantabrian coast, which could also see a weak shower or two in the early morning. The high temperatures experienced over the weekend will persist in most of the country, with maximums in the low to mid 20s expected in most areas.
The mercury will rise considerably in northern Spain while the evening will be notably cooler in the extreme south.
A few light breezes will hit coastal areas, although strong easterly gusts can be expected in Cadiz. As a result, parts of Andalucía, Catalonia and Galicia have been issued with a yellow weather warning for strong winds.
This alert will be escalated to an orange warning in Andalucía on Tuesday April 18 as the easterly gusts gather strength, but they will have little effect on the rest of the country, which will enjoy another largely dry and sunny day. The Balearic Islands and the extreme north of the mainland will experience some cloudy intervals early on and light showers haven’t been ruled out.
Daytime temperatures will drop in the northeast, southeast and northwest but the mercury will begin to climb again at night.
As we reach mid-week few changes are expected and a bright, pleasant day is again forecast on Wednesday April 19, with the exception of inland Valencia, northern Galicia and the Cantabrian coast, which will begin rather overcast.
The afternoon highs will fall in the west of Galicia and the extreme south of the country, although the thermometers should remain well above 20ºC in most places, and the valleys of the Guadalquivir and Guadiana in Extremadura could even top 30ºC. Night-time temperatures will rise in central Spain, although weak frosts will persist inland.
A strong easterly wind will continue to blow in northern Galicia, shifting to a northerly component in the Balearic Islands and along the southeast coast. Andalucía maintains a yellow weather warning for gusts until 2pm on Wednesday.
Looking ahead to Thursday April 20 and another bright, summery day is on the cards, with cloudy intervals only expected in the extreme north of the country and in the north of the Canary Islands. This overcast system could give rise to a few weak showers around the Pyrenees, although no heavy rain of note has been forecast.
Day-time temperatures will fall slightly in western Spain and the Canary Islands while the mercury shoots up in the rest of the country, reaching a sweltering 27ºC in Murcia.
