ARCHIVED - Teenager stabbed in the back in Aguilas school
The boy, 14, was stabbed by a classmate who has now been arrested, but the wound is not life-threatening

A 14-year-old schoolboy has been stabbed in the back and wounded by one of his classmates today, who fled on foot.
The incident happened at the school the two boys attend, the Alfonso Escámez Secondary School in Águilas, at around 9.30am on Monday October 3. Emergency services received several calls reporting that a minor was in need of urgent medical assistance because he had been stabbed inside the classroom, as confirmed by sources from the Guardia Civil.
One boy stabbed another in the back and then ran away from the scene, taking refuge in his house. The two boys had been in fights before, according to official sources from Águilas Town Hall.
“They had already had a dispute at the end of last year which ended with the expulsion of the two students from the centre,” said the Councillor for Public Safety in Águilas, Cristóbal Casado, who also said that “the aggressor is a truant student with a police record in the town”.
Fortunately, according to health sources, the stab wound did not reach vital areas and the victim’s life is not in danger. In fact, he did not even become unconscious after he was stabbed. He was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital, Rafael Méndez de Lorca, and from there to the Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia.
Although national media descended on the school, it did not have to be shut down. However, the Town Hall has promised that “psychologists, counsellors [and] the coexistence team of the Ministry will be at the centre this Tuesday to support classmates and teachers”.
The suspect was apprehended in his home and will now be placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office, facing charges of assault and battery. It is expected that he will be expelled for his behaviour, which was witnessed by staff members.
This is not the first time such violence has been seen in schools in Murcia. In February this year, a 13-year-old boy, a pupil at the Monteagudo school in Murcia, stabbed his teacher, who was Irish, though thankfully that incident didn’t lead to serious health complications.
