Temperatures plummet as polar jet sets in: Spain weather forecast Nov 23-26
Despite the drastically cooler days and nights, most of Spain will remain dry and bright over the weekend
The thermal drop that began earlier in the week will continue to spread in the coming days thanks to the entry of a polar air mass. This will be accompanied by strong winds over the weekend which will make many areas feel even colder.
While frost and snow are likely inland and in mountainous areas, the days will remain mostly clear and bright and any rain will be confined mainly to Cantabria, the Balearic Islands and the Pyrenees.
However, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the weather patterns are constantly changing this time of year and so occasional showers cannot be entirely ruled out further south.
Thursday November 23
Settled weather is forecast for the most part on Thursday with slightly cloudy skies in most areas and only a chance of scattered light rain in eastern Cantabria. Daytime temperatures will increase in northern Spain but they will fall noticeably along the Mediterranean coast and the thermometers won’t rise above 20ºC anywhere but the Canary Islands. The mercury will also dip into single digits in most regions at night.
Strong gusts have placed the Balearic Islands and Catalonia under an orange alert for high waves while a yellow warning is in place in Galicia.
Friday November 24
The Balearic Islands and much of Catalonia can expect very strong gusts and rough seas on Friday but in general the pleasant weather will continue in the rest of the country. Cloudy intervals will mark the day and the Canary Islands could see some rain in the afternoon.
The mercury should climb slightly in eastern Spain but the Canary Islands will experience a drop to temperatures more normal for this time of year. Further south on the mainland, the likes of Málaga and Murcia will reach a pleasant 22 or 23ºC.
Saturday November 25
The gales will continue in the Balearics and Catalonia, which are both on orange alert for rough seas and dangerous waves. Elsewhere, the skies will be mostly cloudy with some bright spells.
Temperatures will fall again in the northwest and along the Mediterranean coast, although the evening will be a little warmer than on previous nights in the southeast.
Sunday November 26
All weather warnings have been lifted for Sunday and Aemet predicts a mostly clear and sunny day across Spain. However, low morning cloudiness is forecast in the northwest and in the eastern Mediterranean area, which could bring scattered showers to coastal areas of the southeast, mainly Alicante.
Daytime temperatures will take a notable dip in most of Spain but the cool weather will be more pronounced in the east.
