Temperatures relax after hot start to the week: Spain weather forecast Aug 14-17
Another blast of heat is expected throughout Spain at the end of the week
August got off to a fairly typical start with some extraordinary temperatures recorded in the middle of last week but the mercury is expected to level out in the coming days, so while it will be warm across Spain the values will be more normal for this time of year.
Several provinces have been issued with yellow alerts for high temperatures at the beginning of the week and the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) suggests that the thermometers could ramp back up in time for next weekend, but it’s unlikely to reach the lofty heights we’ve already seen this month.
Most of Spain will be a little overcast on Monday August 14 but the cloud cover will be heavier and accompanied by scattered showers and locally strong storms in Galicia and Cantabria. Low morning cloud cover along the Mediterranean coast should clear towards the afternoon as the temperatures rise, although the mercury will fall in the Canary Islands and in central and southwestern Spain.
Yellow weather alert for high temperatures: Andalucia, Aragón (storm warning also), Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Madrid, Navarra (storm warning also).
Several heat warnings will remain in place on Tuesday August 15 and the nighttime temperatures are also on the rise in most of the country. A mostly clear day is forecast although cloudy intervals are again expected in the north of Galicia and Cantabria, with scattered showers more likely along the western coast. In the east of Spain, the cloud cover will increase as the day goes on and there’s a good chance of some dry storms and even some rain in mountainous areas.
Yellow weather alert for high temperatures: Andalucia, Aragón, Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Madrid.
The same trend will continue on Wednesday August 16 with temperatures hovering around the mid to high 30s in many points of Andalucia, the Balearic Islands and central and northeastern Spain. There will be a rather hazy start along the Mediterranean coast and in the Canary Islands but the day will generally be clear and bright.
Yellow weather alert for high temperatures: Andalucia, Aragón, Balearic Islands, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Madrid.
In almost the entire country, slightly cloudy skies will predominate on Thursday August 17 and early cloud cover in the Levante will clear before noon. Dry storms are again a possibility in eastern Spain, particularly inland, with a chance of some scattered showers in the Pyrenees.
While there won’t be any major temperature changes, the mercury will drop by a degree or two in most areas, bringing the heat levels down to fairly normal values for this time of year.
There are no weather alerts in place for Thursday.
