ARCHIVED - The end of the Spanish heatwave is in sight
Meteorologists predict things will begin to cool down in Spain by the weekend
It’s still early in the summer but this week, parts of Spain are on red alert for temperatures well into the high 40s with hardly a square inch of the country seeing the mercury dip below melting point.
The real intensity of the heatwave kicked into gear on Tuesday July 12 but the scorching weather has settled in for the week, with areas such as Badajoz and Cordoba braced to hit 45-47ºC this Wednesday and Thursday.
The heatwave actually began officially last weekend, on Saturday July 9 and it’s proving to be a long one, but the end is in sight, with meteorologists predicting that things will start to cool down by Sunday July 17.
This is by no means guaranteed, however, since everything depends on the evolution of a DANA storm, which at the moment is expected to move off the coast of Portugal at the weekend, dramatically lowering the temperatures in Spain from Monday July 18.
With several days of stifling weather still in store, the health authorities have issued clear guidance on how best to protect yourself against the potentially deadly impact of heatwaves.
