ARCHIVED - These are the two communities in Spain which are easing Covid restrictions
With the incidence rate declining, two regions in Spain have chosen to relax safety measures but five others will extend restrictions until the end of January
The regional governments in La Rioja, Andalucía, Navarra, the Canary Islands and Galicia have all decided to extend their Covid restrictions until the end of the month, despite the fact Spain’s 14-day cumulative incidence rate has declined for the second day in a row.
On the other hand, Catalonia has removed its night-time curfew while in Cantabria, the use of the Covid passport has been abolished.
With the Minister of Health claiming that Spain has “already reached the peak” or is at least “very close”, the government in Spain is calling on the autonomous communities to reach “the greatest possible consensus” with regard to restrictions and safety measures going forward.
Although President Sánchez promised that the mandatory use of masks outdoors would only be a temporary measure, this rule remains in place for the time being, but the restriction has little support and the government will have to validate the decree in Congress if it wants it to continue.
