Thieves steal 8.5 million euros worth of luggage from Spanish airport
The robbers swiped a bag containing valuable jewellery and watches at Barcelona Airport

Police have arrested two people accused of a spectacular robbery at Barcelona Airport during which they managed to swipe a handbag from a group of Russian tourists containing high-end jewellery and watches valued at more than 8.5 million euros.
The short-lived multi-millionaires were picked up by police on the AP-7 near Salt in Girona on Wednesday August 2, just hours after they made off with their haul.
The unfortunate victims were reportedly in the check-in queue for Emirates airline in Terminal 1 when a Louis Vuitton purse was snatched. As well as the valuables, the bag contained 20,000 euros in cash.
As soon as the theft was reported by the frantic family, police checked the airport security tapes and quickly identified the perpetrators: a man and a woman who made their getaway in a navy blue Ford Focus rental. A checkpoint was immediately set up on the motorway and the hire car was intercepted.
Sources close to the investigation have reported that among the high-end jewellery stolen was a 47-carat ring valued at more than 4.5 million euros, in addition to other jewels of great value, along with various electronic material.
