Torrevieja unveils plans for new Maritime Museum and auditorium
The open-air complex will be a stunning venue for cultural and leisure events

Torrevieja has taken a big step in the development of one of its most highly anticipated and long-awaited projects this week – the creation of a state-of-the-art Maritime Museum and the Eras de la Sal (salt mines) complex.
The City Council has just published its intention to use land near the port for the project, a crucial admin step before it can move ahead with the final stages.
In order to carry out the planned works in this emblematic and iconic space, the City Council requires a concession for several spaces within the regional jurisdiction. Without this concession, the planned works cannot proceed.
The concession will provide the necessary space for the construction of an open-air multipurpose auditorium, primarily for the annual International Habanera Competition, as well as other exciting projects. The auditorium, designed as an amphitheatre open to the sea, will feature rehearsal rooms, changing rooms and dressing rooms, making it an ideal venue for cultural and leisure activities.
The project, which covers an area of 12,542 square metres, includes the development, landscaping and gardening of the International Marina boatyard. The existing car park in the Mariana Internacional area will be reorganised to ensure easy vehicle access from Calle San Julián.
Additionally, the area will be pedestrianised to provide a seamless connection to the future Paseo de la Sal and the beautifully landscaped Calafates Park, which links to Acequión Beach and Doña Sinforosa Park.
Now that the plans have been published in the Official State Gazette, the public has 15 days to submit any objections to the project.
The project, costing €660,000 and prepared by the award-winning company Paredes Pedrosa Arquitectos, is divided into seven zones and actions: Eras de la Sal, Museo del Mar, Calle Salero plus the complete redevelopment of the boatyard, the ice factory, Avenida Faleria, Paseo Vistalegre, the tourist office, and Calle San Julián.
