Torrevieja's free walking programme for older residents is back this September
Eight group walks are planned between now and December, combining gentle exercise, fresh air and good company
There are not many things better for your health than a regular walk with friendly company, and Torrevieja's Ayuntamiento is making it easy to do exactly that. The Camina Torrevieja programme is returning this autumn with eight free group walks organised between September and December, open to older residents of the municipality and starting this Friday September 11.The walks are run jointly by the Public Health and Social Welfare departments and meet at 8.45am at the Department of Social Welfare on Torrevejenses Ausentes Street, number 39. No complicated registration process, no cost, just turn up in comfortable clothing and shoes, bring some water and sun protection, and you are ready to go.
The programme is straightforward in concept but genuinely valuable in practice. Regular walking supports physical health, helps manage stress and improves mood. For older people especially, getting outdoors and spending time with others can make a real difference to emotional wellbeing, particularly for those who spend a lot of time alone. The Camina Torrevieja walks are developed in partnership with the Mental Health Care and Monitoring Service (SASEM), recognising that good health is about more than just physical fitness.
The full schedule of walks is:
- September 11
- September 23
- October 8
- October 21
- November 4
- November 17
- December 2
- December 18
All walks start at 8.45am.
A few practical tips before heading out: have a proper breakfast beforehand, set your own pace, and if you have any health conditions that might affect your ability to exercise, check with your doctor first.
For more information or to register in advance, you can call 607 821 039 or 607 314 009. There is also a WhatsApp number available at 677 864 823 for anyone who prefers to get in touch that way.
It is a simple, free and sociable way to stay active as the weather cools down. Worth putting in the diary.
