Torrox bans tents and gazebos in public spaces to improve safety
The new regulation aims to protect public areas like beaches and ensure lifeguards can do their job safely

The local authorities explained that tents and gazebos, which often monopolise public spaces such as beaches, can create various issues, particularly during peak tourist seasons.
Vanesa López, the town’s Councillor for Beaches, added that these structures “occupy a large space and privatises the area in which they are installed, usually leading to problems of excessive noise and visibility for lifeguards, which prevent them from carrying out their work of control and surveillance with guarantee and safety”.
The new ban is part of a broader effort to regulate the use of public spaces in Torrox and prevent them from being overtaken by private events. The local authorities are aiming to preserve the quality of life for both residents and tourists by ensuring that public areas, including beaches, remain open and free for everyone to enjoy.
The regulation specifically targets tents and gazebos, but it applies to any large structures that could interfere with the functioning of public spaces. With the summer season approaching, the town hall is determined to address the growing concerns about overcrowded areas and ensure that safety is maintained for both locals and visitors.
Although the new rules may inconvenience some, especially those who frequently use tents or gazebos in these spaces, the local government hopes that residents and tourists will recognise the importance of this change for the overall safety and enjoyment of public areas.
