Tourist raped by cruise ship waiter off Spanish coast
The suspect was arrested when the luxury liner docked in Mallorca
A waiter aboard a cruise ship has been arrested after allegedly raping a passenger when the liner was sailing off the coast of Mallorca. The 25-year-old man, reportedly from India, has since been arrested by Spanish Police.
According to local reports, the female tourist got to know the waiter during the course of the cruise and the pair hit it off, so they arranged to meet in her cabin on the evening of Friday December 1 after he got off work, as the ship sailed towards the capital of Palma.
The woman claims that she originally consented to having sexual relations with the waiter. However, she quickly changed her mind when he refused to wear a condom, and he raped her.
The holidaymaker immediately informed the crew and they reported the allegations to the Guardia Civil, who were waiting at the Mallorca port to arrest the suspect as soon as the ship docked.
Although the assault occurred almost a week ago, the details have just been released by the authorities. The victim’s nationality and age have yet to be made known.
On Sunday December 3, the waiter appeared before a court and was released on bail with charges.
