ARCHIVED - Trains halted and homes evacuated following wildfire in Alicante
A bushfire broke out in La Cañada, Alicante, close to train tracks and two homes
Two homes were evacuated and rail company Adif was forced to halt trains for two hours after a wildfire broke out in La Cañada on Thursday afternoon, July 14.
The blaze started close to railway tracks and La Cañada reservoir at 3.45pm, affecting the railway line's power supply and forcing a two-hour cancellation of train traffic between San Vicente del Raspeig and Agost.
Two homes were evacuated due to the proximity of the flames and the Generalitat Emergency Coordination Centre activated situation 1 of the Special Plan Against the Risk of Forest Fires (PEIF) until 5.30pm when the blaze was brought under control.
Four teams of firefighters equipped with three heavy duty pumps, an Alpha 02 helicopter with water load, an AT-50 light aircraft with water load and two environmental and forest coordinators were all involved in extinguishing the flames, supported by four Local Police patrols from neighbouring towns.
There have been no reports of any injuries, and whilst an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, there are reports that two possible origin sources have been detected close to the train tracks.
