ARCHIVED - Turkish drug trafficker wanted in Germany is arrested in Benidorm
The fugitive was found hiding out at a hotel in the centre of the coastal resort in Alicante province

A 47-year-old Turkish fugitive wanted in Germany for large-scale trafficking has been arrested in Benidorm.
The German authorities issued a European arrest and extradition warrant for the detainee who faces 15 years in prison for offences dating back to 2012. He was charged with trafficking 52 kilos of hashish and 10 kilos of marijuana, which he allegedly bought for 104,000 euros, and reportedly paid 500 euros for the "illicit" transport of the drugs.
German police believed the fugitive had fled to Benidorm, and the National Police began a search and surveillance operation, eventually closing in on the Turkish trafficker at a hotel in the centre of the town.
He has been handed over to the Central Court of Instruction of the National High Court in Madrid, which will be in charge of processing the European Arrest Warrant and the 47-year-old's extradition.
