ARCHIVED - Two tourists fined for using drones in Palma de Mallorca
The holidaymakers were sanctioned for flying the devices during President Sanchez’s visit to Mallorca
The National Police in Palma de Mallorca have confiscated two drones and slapped a couple of tourists with expensive fines for flying their devices without the correct permissions. The incident occurred when the President of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, and a number of other government representatives visited the city last week and the authorities launched an “anti-drone” protection device over the area.
The first drone was detected in Parque del Mar, just 500 metres from the President. The Police grounded the aircraft and quickly tracked down its owner, a Slovak tourist who was visiting the city. He was fined for failing to get permission to fly the drone and for not having civil liability insurance.
Minutes later, a second drone was spotted over the same area. This time, the culprit was a Puerto Rican holidaymaker who also didn’t have valid insurance for his device.
