ARCHIVED - Two die as Barcelona car ploughs into cyclists
The driver who caused the deadly accident in Castellbisbal, Spain had several previous motoring offences

Two people have died and several more were injured when a driver ploughed into a group of cyclists in Castellbisbal in Barcelona on Sunday night, August 21, before fleeing the scene.
The Mossos d'Esquadra Police force was notified of the horrific hit-and-run on the C-243c road shortly before 11am, when a car rammed into a group of eight cyclists.
Two people, aged 66 and 72, lost their lives; one cyclist is critically ill, one is less seriously injured, and another person was treated for injuries at the scene. The three remaining cyclists were thankfully unharmed.

Although the perpetrator left the scene immediately, he was arrested later that night and taken to the police station in Martorell. The following day, the driver, who has a long history of road traffic offences, was transferred to Rubí police station in Barcelona before facing court on Tuesday August 23.
The Rubí City Council (Barcelona) has decreed three days of official mourning in honour of the deceased cyclists.
It's been a particularly deadly week on Spanish roads: on Saturday morning, a 29-year-old Spanish man who later tested positive for alcohol consumption crashed into a group of five cyclists, seriously injuring three.
