UK tourists arrested in Mallorca for alleged rape of fellow Brit holidaymaker
The men reportedly attacked their victim in a hotel room in Spain after meeting through a dating app
Two British holidaymakers, both aged 36, have been arrested for the alleged rape of another man, also from the UK, in a hotel room in Calas de Mallorca. The attackers reportedly met their victim through the popular dating app Grindr.
The alleged assault took place in a resort on the south east coast of the island on Friday October 5. The trio, all believed to be on holiday in Mallorca, spent the day drinking in the hotel and lounging by the pool before returning to their room.
It was here the man claims he was raped before fleeing the complex and reporting the attack to the police, which he reportedly had proof of in the form of recordings on his phone. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and the two suspects were arrested at the hotel a short time later.
An official police spokesperson confirmed the arrests: "National Police officers in Manacor arrested two British men last Friday as the alleged perpetrators of a crime of sexual assault in a hotel in Mallorca. The victim began chatting through a dating application with two men who invited him to their room."
They added that the victim had "made it clear" he was looking for friendship and not sex.
The statement continued: "Despite distancing himself from it, he ended up being allegedly sexually assaulted, suffering injuries and having to go to a hospital. In view of the situation, the protocol for this type of crime was activated, with an investigation beginning that concluded with the arrest of the two men as alleged perpetrators of a crime of sexual assault."
It’s understood the suspects appeared before a judge early the following day and have since been released with charges.
