Águilas hosts a series of parades and events mirroring the largest early spring Carnival in the Region of Murcia
The town of Águilas is well-known in the Region of Murcia for holding the largest and most spectacular Carnival celebrations in the Costa Cálida in February, but there is also an entertaining summer Carnival which takes place in late July and/or early August every year.
These year’s summer Carnival in Águilas features various parades on the seafront and other events at the open-air venue of Plaza Antonio Cortijos.
The schedule for the 2022 summer Carnival includes the following:
Friday July 22: Paper costumes and body make-up gala in the Plaza Antonio Cortijos at 21.30. Tickets are on sales at the Federación de Peñas de Carnaval on weekdays between 19.00 and 21.00.
Saturday July 23: First Carnival parade in the bay of Playa Levante at 21.00.
Sunday July 24: Second Carnival parade in the bay of Playa Levante at 21.00.
Saturday July 30: Third and final Carnival parade in the bay of Playa Levante at 21.00.
Saturday August 6: Chirigota musical groups perform in the Plaza Antonio Cortijos. Tickets are on sales at the Federación de Peñas de Carnaval on weekdays between 19.00 and 21.00.
Friday August 19: Drag Queen gala in the Plaza Antonio Cortijos. Tickets are on sale at the Federación de Peñas de Carnaval on weekdays between 19.00 and 21.00.
Seats to watch the parades can be reserved at the booking office in Plaza Antonio Cortijos every day of the week except Sunday from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 18.30 to 20.30, at a cost of 5 euros per seat.
Tickets are also being sold on the parade days from a kiosk in the Paseo de las Delicias between 10:00 and 20:00 and in situ from 20:00 along the parade route.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
