Valencia suffers four earthquakes in an hour and a half
The continuous tremors forced the activation of a special plan against seismic risk
The Valencian region of Ribera Alta yesterday recorded four earthquakes in just one hour and a half, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN). The first of the four earthquakes recorded a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale and happened at 10.11am in the Sumacàrcer area.
Many in the surrounding area stated that they felt the tremors and the City Council also confirmed that the earthquake was felt by many of the local population. Half an hour later, the second earthquake was recorded in another area of ​​the same municipality of Sumacàrcer and registered a magnitude of 1.5.
The third tremor happened at 11.22 am, this time in the municipality of Gavarda and had a magnitude of 2.1 and recorded a depth of four kilometres. Finally, the last tremor, also in Gavarda, was recorded at 11.44am and the IGN seismographs established that it had a magnitude of 2.9 and was two kilometres deep.
Furthermore, The Generalitat's Emergency Coordination Centre (CCE) has activated Situation 0 of the Special Plan against Seismic Risk to monitor earthquakes that have occurred in the Ribera Alta region because of the frequency of the tremors.
