ARCHIVED - Vehicle driven by 79-year-old man overturns on La Azohia-Cartagena road
The driver was trapped inside his vehicle
A 79-year-old man was rescued by firefighters and taken to hospital after being injured when the vehicle in which he was travelling left the road and overturned, at kilometer 12 of the RM-E22 highway (Cartagena-La Azohía), in the municipality of Cartagena on Thursday (July 29).
The 1-1-2 Emergency Services were contacted by other road-users at 11:51 indicating that a vehicle had veered off the road, ploughing into the ditch and scrubland alongside the road, overturning and trapping its occupant inside.
A Guardia Civíl patrol, firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire Extinction and Rescue Consortium and the Cartagena City Council Fire and Rescue Service, as well as a Mobile Emergency Unit answered the callout.
The injured man was removed from inside the vehicle by the firefighters, stabilized by the health workers and transferred to the Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena.
No information has been given about the cause of the accident.
