Athletes hoping for an invigorating match at the Las Mesas sports centre in Estepona certainly felt their heart rates go up this week when a massive snake was spotted slithering dangerously close to a paddle tennis court.
The unexpected guest, measuring around 1.5 metres in length, sent panic through the sports centre before firefighters from the Provincial Consortium of Málaga (CPB) stepped in to handle the situation.
The alarm was raised at approximately 3pm when a concerned passerby alerted the 112 Emergency Service about the sizeable serpent making its way down Calle Eslovenia, right next to the popular sports centre. Given its proximity to a busy public space, emergency crews wasted no time in responding.

As seen in the dramatic video, the team placed the reptile into a secure container before transporting it to a more suitable natural habitat, where it was released unharmed.
While the sight of a giant snake in a public area may be enough to send shivers down the spine, this story had a happy ending.
