ARCHIVED - Volunteering activities for World Wetlands Day in San Pedro del Pinatar: January 29
Participants can enjoy a tour of the salt factory in San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia
As part of the European project LIFE Salinas, the non-profit organisations ANSE and Pinatar Natura have organised an environmental volunteering activity in which participants can help to remove invasive flora and learn more about the salt flats with a guided tour of the salt factory in San Pedro.
To restore the native flora of the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park, volunteers are going to help remove invasive exotic flora, mostly sour fig, or uña de gato in Spanish.
After some light gardening, a guide will take the volunteers on a walk through the salt factory, where they will be able to see the crystallising ponds and the mountains of salt from a viewpoint.
The organisation is going to provide all of the necessary equipment for gardening (gloves, hoes, bags, etc.). The only things that volunteers will need to bring are a facemask, some water, a snack and perhaps a camera to capture the stunning views.
Although all of the information will initially be provided in Spanish, it can be translated throughout the activity for volunteers who don’t speak the language.
The activity starts at 10am on Saturday January 29 and ends at around 1pm. The meeting point is the Coterillo carpark (click for map), located near the port (Diseminado Salinas, 4, 30740 San Pedro del Pinatar).
