ARCHIVED - Vueling promises zero flight disruptions in Spain despite Christmas strikes
Cabin crew in Spain have agreed to a series of strikes between December 19 and January 8
Spain’s second largest airline Vueling has insisted this week that it “guarantees all its operations during the Christmas period” will run without a hitch, despite the fact that its cabin crew have been called to strike action by the Stavla union between December 19 and January 8.
The airline expects that "all flights already scheduled and for sale will operate as planned" and has added that all flights that could be affected by the industrial action have been cancelled as a preventative measure.
The substantial promise by the airline has come just weeks after Irish carrier Ryanair was successfully sued by unions for unfairly imposing the minimum services rule during the summer and penalising striking cabin crew staff who failed to turn up to work.
In the event that some disruptions are actually caused, Vueling has offered in advance to make alternative arrangements for customers whose flights end up being cancelled, although the carrier reiterated that tickets currently on sale are unlikely to be affected.
It’s already shaping up to be a chaotic Christmas for travellers planning a trip to Spain, as border staff at several UK airports are also going on strike during key dates over the festive period, work stoppages which the government has warned will almost certainly lead to considerable delays.
The Stavla union has called a strike every Friday, Sunday, Monday and holidays from November 1 to January 31 as well as holidays and on December 24 and 31 and January 5, to demand a salary update of 13.4% for 2022.
