ARCHIVED - Walk-in Covid vaccination at Elche shopping centre: December 3
Jabs without an appointment will be offered at Elche's l'Aljub shopping centre in the Baix Vinalopo, Alicante province
Walk-in jabs without an appointment for anybody over the age of 12 are once again being offered at l'Aljub shopping centre in Elche on Friday as the Valencia region's Ministry of Health attempts to capitalise on what is expected to be a busy week for Christmas shoppers.
Around 10% of the region's target population have still not been immunised, and as the health data continue on an upward trend, with the 14-day cumulative incidence rate reaching 208 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the government is keen to reach this minority to combat the spread of the virus over the festive period.
"Given the increase in Covid infections in recent days, we want to progress further with the vaccination campaign to reach Christmas in a stable situation," said Alicante Mayor, Luis Barcala.
From Friday December 3, proof of vaccination in the form of a Covid passport will be crucial to enter many leisure and hospitality venues following high court approval.
"We are seeing how the imminent use of the health passport in the Valencia region is encouraging the population to get vaccinated. I am convinced that this is a useful tool to achieve herd immunity, to be able to live with the virus and to avoid further damaging the economy of some sectors. Getting vaccinated is an act of responsibility and solidarity towards the population as a whole," added the mayor.
Carried out by staff from the Hospital Universitario del Vinalopó and the Hospital General Universitario de Elche, the appointment-free vaccinations, using doses of Pfizer, will take place between 5pm and 9pm.
Around 200 people were vaccinated in the last round of walk-in jabs at the shopping centre.
Anybody who wants to be jabbed will need to show their SIP card or NIE/DNI. Minors (over the age of 12), must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
