WATCH: Enormous metre-long iguana rescued near Malaga highway
Several other reptiles have been captured nearby in the Costa del Sol in recent days
It’s not uncommon to see the roadside scrub lands rustling with life as cars zoom by, but one Malaga local spotted a rather unusual specimen perched in a tree in the green area between Valle Inclán avenue and Calle Genoveses.
The huge iguana, measuring more than one metre in length and weighing around 6.5 kilos, had settled in the scrub next to Calle Albacete when a local caught sight of it. He called a vet, who immediately notified the Local Police of Malaga.
Agents from the municipal Animal Protection Centre transferred the iguana to a shelter but despite being given every care, the reptile was in extremely poor health and unfortunately died a few days later.

And incredibly, just days later, a Florida King snake measuring around 1.20 metres in length appeared in the exact same place. A woman had picked up some items from the rubbish containers and upon examining them when she got home, made the terrifying discovery of the huge reptile in one of her finds.

Both snakes were brought to the Municipal Health Centre where they will be nursed back to health.
