WATCH: Murcia president promises lower vet bills if re-elected
López Miras posed with his dog Pepe and guaranteed tax deductions for pet owners in the Region of Murcia

In a surprise move, president of the Region of Murcia Fernando López Miras tugged at the heartstrings of pet owners this week by posting an adorable TikTok video of his dog Pepe while delivering an important message: if he is re-elected in the May 28 elections, he will implement tax deductions for mandatory veterinary expenses.
“I know that the expenses for their care are too expensive,” he said while frolicking in the garden with Pepe, suggesting that tax cuts will be applied to procedures like microchipping and animal vaccinations.
Since the new animal welfare law was approved earlier this year, dog and cat owners in Spain have to microchip their animals.

Conozco todas las necesidades y os quiero ayudar a cuidarlas con medidas para rebajar los gastos veterinarios obligatorios. #pp #lopezmiras #votapp #presidente #murcia #regiondemurcia #LaMayoriaNecesaria #compromiso ♬ sonido original - Fernando López Miras
In addition, López Miras announced that his future government will approve a specific regulation so that pets can accompany their owners on public transport "with the necessary hygiene and safety measures."
At the moment, aside from a few pilot projects that have been run by rail operators, larger breeds are prohibited from regional buses and trains.
"I am convinced that this is how we are going to ensure that all pets can be super well cared for," the candidate concluded.
