Watch the video: Ingenious Spanish road workers install fake police car to slow drivers down
The workers wanted to scare drivers into hitting the brakes as they passed road works in Spain
Tired of traffic zooming past them as they toiled on the roadside, workers in Albacete commissioned a life-size – and very life-like – model of a Guardia Civil patrol car to encourage drivers to step on the brakes as they passed the road works.
Very unluckily for the workers, one of the first vehicles to cruise by was an actual police car; while the agents were admittedly fascinated by the realism of the cardboard cut-out, they nevertheless were forced to fine the men, who of course didn’t have official authorisation to impersonate Guardia Civil officers, or to place such a large obstruction on a public road.

As well as the fine, the workers had shelled out 700 euros for the fake car, which included working lights and indicators.
However, for the short time it was in place it did the trick, as according to reports, every car that passed before the decoy was removed did slow down.
