Welsh schoolboy, 5, saves sister on holiday in Spain
The little boy was on a family vacation to Mallorca when disaster struck

Five-year-old Harvey Taylor from Conwy in north Wales has been hailed a hero after he saved his sister’s life while on a family holiday in Spain. The children had been enjoying a fun day in a Mallorca pool when Elliemay, aged eight, ran into difficulty in the water.
Miraculously, the young child knew exactly what to do and sprung into action to rescue his sister from drowning.
“The children were all playing in the pool in rubber rings,” said mum Zoe. “They decided to go to another area of the pool, Elliemay got out of her depth, she fell through the ring and started to panic. She was in real trouble and in serious danger of drowning. Harvey knew exactly what to do as the RNLI had taught him not to panic and to put his hands up and call for help. I honestly think without the lesson he’d had he wouldn’t have even realised what was happening. He was shouting loudly and raising the alarm managing to attract attention and Elliemay was safe.”
By an incredible stroke of luck, the RNLI had visited Harvey’s school just days before the holiday and instructed the children in basic emergency responses.
Zoe hopes their story might prevent other holiday near misses in the future.
She added: “Harvey was so shaken up, but later on started to tell us all about the visit to school and I know this is what saved my daughter. The first thing I did when I got home was contacted the school to say thank you to the RNLI for helping Harvey to save his sister’s life. I just want people to hear our story and realise how quickly it can happen.”

Once the family returned to the UK, RNLI safety instructor Myfanwy Jones made another visit to Harvey’s school, this time to present the brave youngster with a special certificate.
“As part of our water safety programme, speaking with children and young people is an essential part of our work. Hearing Harvey’s story is incredibly heart-warming,” she said.
