Many people in Spain are hoping for an England-Spain face-off in the Qatar 2022 World Cup

<span style='color:#780948'>ARCHIVED</span> - Will England play Spain on the road to the World Cup Final?

With Wales out of the World Cup and England now through to the Quarter Finals after their 3-0 win over Senegal, many British expats living in Spain will be wondering whether the Three Lions will face off against Spain. In fact, many people will be hoping for just such an eventuality for the sheer joyous/tense/competitive (*delete as appropriate) atmosphere that would be present on the Spanish streets and in the Irish bars.

Well, those hoping for an England vs Spain match in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup may be in luck, but it depends on a few factors. England could face off against the Spanish national team in the Semi-finals of the World Cup, but only if both teams win their quite difficult run-up matches.

First, Spain are playing Morocco on Tuesday December 6, and if they win they will go through to the Quarter-Finals, to play against whoever wins between Portugal v Switzerland.

Then, Spain would have to win their Quarter-Finals match against Portugal or Switzerland, which is to be played on Saturday December 10 at 4pm (Spanish time), while England would have to beat France in the Quarter-Final match on the same day at 8pm.

If that happens (which is a big ‘if’), we would see an England v Spain Semi-final to be played on Wednesday December 14, to decide which team will go through to the Finals.
