ARCHIVED - Woman killed and three injured after car plunges into ravine in Javea
The vehicle was travelling on the Gata de Gorgos road when it veered into a deep ravine in the Marina Alta, Alicante province
A 55-year-old woman has died and three others have been injured, one seriously, after the car they were travelling in left the road in Javea and rolled down a ravine.
The fatal crash happened on the Gorgos de Gata road at around 8.45pm on Wednesday October 13, and according to the Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (CICU), three people were trapped inside the overturned vehicle by the time a five-strong crew of firefighters from Denia arrived at the scene.
Four ambulances and medical teams were also dispatched, but tragically, there was nothing the paramedics could do to save the 55-year-old, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Once firefighters managed to free the other three people in the car, they were all taken to Marina Alta Hospital. A woman, 35, and a man whose age has not been disclosed, suffered multiple trauma, whilst a 25-year-old young man was treated for polycontusions.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
Elsewhere in Alicante province, two children and four adults were inured in a head-on horror crash in Elche on Wednesday afternoon, October 13.
