ARCHIVED - 11 Mazarron beaches given another sought-after tourism seal of approval
The coastline in the Region of Murcia town has been awarded 11 new 'S' Tourism Sustainability awards
11 beaches in Mazarrón have been awarded new 'S' Tourism Sustainability awards in recognition of the high quality of services offered to residents and visitors whilst respecting the natural environment.
Awarded by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE), the certification accredits the municipality's respect for the coastline and the conservation of environmental values to ensure sustainable tourism.
Among the elements that stand out in Mazarrón are the measures taken to improve accessibility for all users, ecological beaconing as a means of seabed conservation, particularly in the posidonia meadow, and a "strong commitment to seasonal services and facilities".
Mazarrón Town Hall put forward 11 beaches for distinction, and all of them have been successful; Bolnuevo, La Isla, Puerto, Alamillo, Mojón, Rihuete, Junta de los Mares, Bahía, Nares, Castellar, Las Moreras, Castellar and Las Moreras.
Mazarrón and Cartagena are the only two municipalities in Spain to gain the 'S' status, and join an elite group nationally which includes Marbella, Gandía, Huelva.
The coastal town's beaches also boast seven Blue Flags, seven 'Q' certifications for tourist quality, and seven SICTED awards granted by the Secretary of State for Tourism.
