ARCHIVED - 12 natural parks in Valencia closed to the public due to high forest fire risk
Extreme heatwave have forced the government to put extra prevention measures in place across the region including the province of Alicante
The Valencia regional government has restricted access to 12 natural parks in the region from Thursday August 12 due to a high risk of wildfires caused by the extreme heatwave forecast across Spain.
The measure affects both pedestrians and vehicles and is in place in the natural parks of: Serra d’Irta, Penyagolosa, Desert de les Palmes, Tinença de Benifassà, Serrà Espadà, Serra Calderona, Puebla de San Miguel, Túria, Hoces del Cabriel, Serra de Mariola, Font Roja and Prat de Cabanes.
In the remaining natural parks of the region normal measures corresponding with wildfire alert level three will be in place.
The authorities will also be carrying out ‘humidifying’ flights and have increased vigilance and preventative security measures by 50 per cent.
In addition, from Thursday, any kind of activity which could cause a forest fire, such as bonfires or BBQs, is prohibited.
Temperatures are forecast to reach up to 43º in the Comunidad Valenciana over the weekend, prompting both Aemet and the regional government to issue warnings and advise the population to stay indoors between noon and 4pm and to make every efoort to remain hydrated over the next few days until the heat begins to die down.
