Another British tourist goes missing on Spanish holiday island
The 26-year-old vanished a week ago after being robbed on a beach in Mallorca
Just days after the body of 19-year-old Briton Jay Slater was discovered in Tenerife, it emerged that another tourist from the UK has vanished into thin air in one of Spain’s most famous holiday hotspots.
Ben Ross, a 26-year-old law student from Golborne in Wigan, hasn’t been seen or heard from since July 10, when he disappeared from Palma, the capital of Mallorca.
The student jetted off to Spain last month to take a break from the stress of his university work, but the trip soon turned into a nightmare when his bag – containing his phone, iPad, wallet and keys – was robbed on July 6.
He eventually managed to find his way home but couldn’t wake his flatmates as it was late, so broke into the apartment. According to local reports, the people he was staying with were furious and called the police on July 10.
Police decided against pursuing charges when Ben offered to pay for the damages.
However, things took a darker turn just a few hours later when Ben’s mum Felix, at home in the UK, received a “peculiar” email from her son. The young man has struggled with his mental health in the past, and Felix believes the email confirms that “his mental state was not in a good place.”
That was the last time anyone heard from Ben.
A GoFundMe has been launched to pay for Felix and her daughter to fly to Mallorca and, in the meantime, she has asked anyone with information to contact the British Consulate.
“Like any mother, no matter what age your children are, they are still your children. I just need to know my son is safe and well. The last few days have been torture.
“Please, if anyone has seen Ben, even if it’s just for a second, let the authorities know. We need to find him,” she said.
