ARCHIVED - Murcia and Malaga to receive rescue flights repatriating tourists stuck in Morocco
Chartered flights will bring home travellers who got trapped after the African country closed its borders due to Omicron

After Morocco decided to close its airspace as a precautionary measure against the outbreak of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19, many Spanish citizens and other foreign tourists have been left stranded in the country.
The Spanish embassy in Rabat is organising repatriation flights with some airlines so that Spanish citizens can leave the country. On Wednesday December 1 it was confirmed that Málaga airport will also be part of the logistics, receiving a total of 11 flights over the next few days with travellers who have been stranded in Morocco.
In addition to Málaga, there are three Spanish cities that will receive flights from Morocco: Madrid, Barcelona and Murcia, which saw dozens of trapped tourists who previously saw no way of getting home.
The chartered flights are being put on by the company Air Arabia, which will depart from the cities of Rabat and Tangier. The first flight, was scheduled for this Wednesday, from Nador, and the airline has scheduled further flights every day from today, December 2 until the following Monday.
A total of five flights will depart from Tangiers, according to the airline, with three more departures are scheduled for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The other flight that will complete the five that will take off from Tangiers has not yet been scheduled, but will most likely depart on Thursday or Friday.
