ARCHIVED - Netflix increases prices in Spain from October
Only the cost of the basic plan will remain the same in Spain
Streaming giant Netflix has announced that it is upping its rates for the third time since its arrival in Spain in 2015. From Monday October 11, the two most expensive plans, the standard and premium, will see a price hike of 8.3% and 12.5% respectively, leaving only the most basic option at the original cost of 7.99 euros per month.
From today, the standard plan, which allows users to view content in high definition and on two devices at the same time, will jump from 11.99 euros to 12.99. In the case of the premium option, which offers movies and TV shows in 4K on up to four devices at once, the monthly bill will increase from 15.99 to 17.99 euros.
Netflix has explained that the price increase is due to its continuous improvements to the service and a greater investment in its productions. The more expensive tariffs will be charged to new customers automatically upon registration while current subscribers will receive notifications from next week warning of the price hike. All of the other features and functions of the streaming platform will remain unchanged, including the new Android video games launched in Spain at the end of September.
