Are any shops open in the Region of Murcia on New Year's Day?
Just like Christmas Day, January 1 is a national holiday in Spain so many supermarkets and stores will close
New Year's Day is celebrated on Wednesday January 1 this year, marking the start of the 2025 holiday calendar. It is a time when gatherings with family, friends and loved ones are often the order of the day and here in Spain, the celebrations are often centred around food.
Unfortunately, the weather forecast isn’t especially promising in the Region of Murcia this week so many people might be looking for some fun activities to while away the holiday hours.
However, January 1, just like Christmas Day and Three Kings’ Day, is a national holiday across Spain so most businesses, supermarkets, stores and leisure venues will shut up shop for the day.
If you need to stock up on some last minute goodies for New Year’s Day, you can do so on December 31, a working day like December 24. However, many shops adjust their hours and tend to close earlier than usual, so it is advisable to confirm opening hours in advance.
Which stores are open in the Region of Murcia on January 1?
Shopping centres
- Nueva Condomina shopping centre: only restaurants and leisure facilities will be open during their usual hours; shops will remain closed.
- Dos Mares Shopping Centre: It will also close its stores during this holiday.
- Thader Shopping Centre: restaurants and leisure facilities will be open during regular hours, but shops will not be open.
- La Noria Outlet: will remain closed.
- Espacio Mediterráneo: will remain closed. Its website indicates that it is open all year round, except on December 25, January 1 and January 6.
- Almenara Park: its shops will be closed.
Supermarkets
- Carrefour: all supermarkets in the chain will remain closed, except for some Carrefour Express stores. Please check their specific opening hours.
- Alcampo: none of its establishments will open.
- Mercadona: will remain closed.
- Dia: all its stores will be closed.
- Lidl: will not open on this date.
Other Stores
- El Corte Inglés: its stores in Murcia and Cartagena will be closed.
- Ikea: will not open its doors.
- MediaMarkt: all its stores in the Region -Ronda Sur, Nueva Condomina, Lorca and Cartagena- will be closed.
- Leroy Merlin: the stores in Nueva Condomina, Murcia Sur, Lorca, Cartagena and San Pedro will also be closed.
