British climber, 66, rescued from Benidorm cliff face
The man was airlifted to safety from the steep Serra Gelada Lighthouse path on the Costa Blanca

A 66-year-old British man had to be rescued on Monday December 4 after falling and becoming stuck in the Serra Gelada cliff area in Benidorm.
According to sources from the Alicante Provincial Firefighters Consortium, the experienced climber slipped on the sheer cliff face shortly after 2pm while heading in the direction of the lighthouse and couldn’t regain his footing.
Three firefighters, a corporal and a sergeant from the Benidorm rushed to the scene and agents from the Local Police also attended with the intention of attempting a rescue from the sea. However, due to the steep terrain, the emergency services decided the safest course of action was to mobilise the mountain rescue group (GER) aboard the Alpha 01 helicopter and the Briton was eventually carried to safety in an evacuation sling.
The man had suffered various minor cuts and bruises in the fall so was taken immediately to a local health centre, before later being transferred to a private hospital.Images: Bomberos Alicante
