ARCHIVED - British man drowns off Costa Brava coast
The man’s lifeless body was pulled from the sea in Girona, northern Spain
Another Brit has lost his life in Spanish waters this weekend. The 62-year-old man was dragged lifeless from the surf around lunch time on Saturday April 29. According to official reports, the victim went for a swim in the picturesque seaside town of Calella de Palafrugell and a woman raised the alarm at 1pm when he failed to return home afterwards.
Police and paramedics launched a search at Sant Roc Cove, a popular bathing spot in the province of Girona in northern Spain famous for its stunning overhanging cliffs and quaint fishermen’s cottages.
Emergency responders quickly spotted the Briton in the water but, tragically, he was already dead when they arrived. A post-mortem will be carried out and an investigation has been opened into his death, but at the moment the authorities believe it was a tragic drowning accident.
It’s not yet clear if the woman who called the emergency service is the victim’s partner, or whether he was holidaying or living in the Girona resort.
The latest fatality comes just days after another British man drowned off the coast of Tenerife. The 58-year-old was swimming at a beach close to the Teno lighthouse in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte when he lost consciousness. Two passers-by, one a nurse, pulled the man from the water and administered CPR but he sadly died a short time later.
