ARCHIVED - British most wanted fugitive believed to be hiding out in Marbella
The alleged drug dealer fled to Spain after skipping bail in 2020
Alex Male, a 29-year-old Briton accused of drug trafficking, money laundering and conspiracy to acquire a firearm has been added to the UK’s Most Wanted list of fugitives understood to be hiding out in Spain. The British and Spanish authorities believe that Male is currently residing in the Marbella area.
Last week, the initial list of 12 was reduced just 24 hours after the campaign was launched when an off-duty policeman spotted criminal Joshua Hendry in San Pedro Alcántara. Authorities have appealed to the public via Crimestoppers to keep an eye out for the dangerous fugitives, most of whom are believed to be in Spain’s Costa del Sol. The dedicated phone line guarantees anonymity and ensures that citizens aren’t put in any danger by volunteering information on the whereabouts of the fugitives.
Originally from Weston-super-Mar, Male is accused of using encrypted communications platform EncroChat to distribute class A drugs in the south-west of the UK. As part of Operation Venetic, Male was arrested by the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit but he skipped bail in December 2020 and fled to Spain to escape British justice.
The wanted man is 1.82 metres tall and has several distinctive tattoos, including a full sleeve with his family tree on his left arm. The word ‘Love’ is tattooed on his left hand along with a swallow and three stars on the wrist, while he has a full tribal tattoo on his right arm that goes towards his chest. Lastly, Male has an angel tattooed on his back.
Steve Reynolds, Regional Director of the NCA in Spain, said: "Alex Male is suspected of using EncroChat to orchestrate drug deals with criminal groups across the South West of England. This type of criminality has a devastating impact on our communities and must be brought to justice."
“Last week’s arrest of a fugitive 24 hours after appearing on our most wanted list should serve as a warning to Male,” he added.
