British teens arrested for trashing Spanish hotel room
The judge held the passports of the UK tourists until they paid for the damage to the Magaluf suite
Two badly behaved British teens have been arrested in the Mallorca party resort of Magaluf and ordered to pay a hefty fine after trashing a hotel room during a drunken fight. The judge for their case held onto their passports and refused to let them fly back to the UK until they paid 1,000 euros for damages.
According to the Guardia Civil, a hotel receptionist requested their assistance at 10.30pm on September 9 as the two buddies, who were sharing a room, were engaged in a fist fight. The brawl had spilled out into the hallway by the time officers arrived, who had to separate the rowdy pair.
When interviewed, the two 18-year-olds admitted they had consumed a lot of alcohol and a physical altercation ensued, which resulted in two broken doors in the hotel room, a broken lock and copious amounts of blood spattered on the walls. The night shift manager explained that the damage would cost 1,000 euros to repair and promptly threw the youngsters out.
Once they had sobered up, one of the boys called his mum in the UK to transfer the money, but it never arrived. At this time, the tourists again began to get agitated again and even accused the arresting officers of wanting to keep the 1,000 euros for themselves. The Guardia Civil calmly explained that the payment was for the hotel, in exchange for the establishment not pressing charges.
All this was to no avail, the teenagers became more abusive and shouted that they would rather be locked up than pay the fine. Since no money transfer materialised, their wish was granted and the two were formally arrested for criminal damages.
A few hours later, the Britons appeared in front of a judge in Vía Alemania and the magistrate on duty withdrew their passports until they paid up. The money finally arrived and the teens flew back to the UK.
