British tourist disappears in Tenerife
The family are worried after five days without contact
Fears for a British man’s safety are growing after he was last seen five days ago on Spain’s island of Tenerife. The man has become the latest in a succession of people to have gone missing on the island. The British national was last seen in the south of the island in the tourist hot spot of Playa de las Americas.
The British man, who’s first name is Peter, has been missing since Tuesday and the family have appealed to the public for any information on their missing family member. According to the missing persons Tenerife page, Peter is from Middlesbrough. He intended to fly back to the UK on the Monday, October 7.
This latest report follows a string of recent disappearances on the island, and the discovery of a decomposing body in a ravine last month.
A 16-year-old-girl is also among the latest to vanish on the island. Nicoll Andrea was last seen on August 20 in Arona, Santa Cruz, wearing a black skirt, a red top and black sandals on the day she disappeared.
The two are among several people to have vanished from the Canary Islands over the past year. Jay Slater’s disappearance in June made international headlines after the young man attempted to walk ten hours back to his accommodation.
Less than two weeks after his disappearance, Tenerife police stated that they were discontinuing the search for Slater. On July 15, the discovery of a body in the area of interest was reported, later confirmed to be that of Slater.
Also missing is 71-year-old Marc Francis, a pensioner who was last seen in Adeje, Santa Cruz de Tenerife over five months ago in April. Marc's wife, 66-year-old Laura Gaston, was discovered floating off the east coast of Tenerife by a fisherman. She was missing one hand and both legs, and her head was covered with a plastic bag.
