ARCHIVED - Cabo de Gata beach shuttle service gets going for the summer season
Traffic is limited in the Natural Park in Almeria (Andalusia) over the summer months to protect it as thousands of visitors head for its stunning beaches.
Shuttle buses to the beaches in Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park (Almería) will be up and running as of Tuesday 6 July, the authorities have announced.
Buses will be running regularly from the centre of San José to the beaches between 10.30 am and 8 pm until 5 September, with five new stops this year in the Campillo del Genovés area, in the western area of San José, Playa de Genoveses, Playas del Barronal, Playa de Mónsul and Cala Carbón.
Park authorities place restrictions on traffic numbers between June and September to protect the Natural Park from excess pollution and control endless queues and jams that tend to form on the roads in and out of the area in the summer.
With a round trip on the shuttle bus priced at just 2.70 euros, and discounts available for local transport cardholders as well as for those who buy multiple trips, the summer shuttle bus is a cheap and easy way for visitors and residents in the area to reach the stunning natural beaches without worrying about driving, parking or sweating in queues for hours.
This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, tickets will be available for purchase online for the first time, and the bus company has incorporated strict health and safety measures including ozone machines to disinfect the vehicles.
Those interested in acquiring their tickets online can do so by scanning a QR code the company has published on its website and social media, and leaflets.
