Cosmetics in Spanish hair salons found to contain placenta and carcinogenic ingredients
The horrifying hairdressers in Madrid were selling several dangerous products banned by the European Union
Police in Madrid have shut down several beauty shops in the Usera district after it was discovered they were using and selling products banned by the European Union. These included some cosmetics containing sheep placenta and others with known carcinogenic properties.
In one of the hairdressers inspected, the agents found products with the presence of CMR, which are mutagenic or toxic substances that can cause reproductive problems. In this sole premises, officers confiscated 12 cosmetic products and 82 bottles containing placenta, all reportedly made in China.
Police also discovered that a microblading machine was using inks that had expired in 2019, and a further search produced various outdated wooden paddles in wax jars and blades, all of which are prohibited by law.
In addition to the dodgy cosmetics, the staff toilet in another hair salon was in a deplorable condition; aide from not being accessible, there were unidentifiable stains all over the walls and part of the ceiling had collapsed due to a faulty drain. This premises had no approved container to dispose of dangerous waste, sharp implements or syringes.
Many other sanitary and hygiene breaches were discovered throughout the beauty parlours searched, including a lack of fire extinguishers, walls and ceilings without washable paint, bathrooms without running water or toilet paper and hand towels and general dirt and damage. In one building, officers even found empty beer bottles scattered on the floor.
There were also shots and other alcohol in the fridges while dirty plates and dishes were piled up in the kitchen areas. Unsurprisingly, none of the chairs, counters or hairbrushes and combs had been sanitised. Due to the general filth of the salons, the Police ordered the immediate cessation of activity.
