ARCHIVED - Covid situation in Murcia region remains stable: Covid update April 21
One further fatality takes the Murcia coronavirus death toll up to 1,588
The Region of Murcia continues to escape the worst of the fourth wave of coronavirus infection which has seen incidence rates soar in various of the country’s 17 regions, and the latest update on Wednesday afternoon (providing figures up to midnight on Tuesday) again reports fewer than 100 new confirmed cases.
Of the 86 new cases, 23 were reported in the municipality of Murcia, 15 in each of Cartagena and Lorca, 5 in Molina de Segura, 5 in San Pedro del Pinatar, 4 in Alcantarilla and 3 each in Águilas, Fuente Álamo and Jumilla, and the positives were the result of a total of 3,136 PCR tests being carried out: this represents an encouragingly low positivity rate of 2.7 per cent.
However, while the situation remains largely under control in the Region there are still grounds for concern.
The number of Covid patients receiving hospital treatment and those in intensive care both rose by 1, to 80 and 18 respectively, and over the last two days the number of active cases known in Murcia has increased from 513 to 587.
At the same time, the death of a 77-year-old woman on Tuesday took the total of Covid-related fatalities in the Region of Murcia since the pandemic reached Spain to 1,588.
