ARCHIVED - Covid incidence rates rise sharply in AndalucÃa with another 2,300 cases confirmed
All eight provinces are above the high risk threshold except Almería
The fifth wave of coronavirus contagion is beginning to take its toll in the region of Andalucía, and the latest regional government update reports a further 2,327 confirmed cases on Thursday 8th July.
As a result the 14-day incidence rate has risen to 224 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (rising to over 500 among teenagers and those in their twenties), and all eight provinces are above the “high risk” threshold of 150 except Almería. The breakdown by province shows rates of 319 in Málaga, 279 in Córdoba, 273.5 in Granada, 225.5 in Jaén, 212 in Cádiz, 179 in Huelva, 159 in Sevilla and 115 in Almería.
Among the 2,327 new cases are 776 in the province of Málaga, 403 in Sevilla, 343 in Cádiz, 250 in Granada, 235 in Córdoba, 167 in Jaén, 112 in Huelva and just 41 in Almería.
However, the strain on the region’s hospitals continues to ease, at least for the time being. There are now 509 Covid patients receiving hospital treatment (occupying approximately 2.7 per cent of the beds) although the number in intensive care has risen by 3 to 120.
At the same time another 6 deaths in the region have taken the toll since the pandemic started to 10,238.
Vaccination data
A total of 4.83 million people in Andalucía have received at least one vaccine dose, equating to 57 per cent of the population as a whole and 64.9 per cent of those aged over 12.
Among them are 3.59 million who are fully vaccinated, equivalent to 42.3 per cent of the population as a whole and 48.1 per cent of those aged over 12.
