ARCHIVED - Enormous circling shark panics bathers on Spanish beach
The disorientated shark swam right to the shore on the island of Mallorca in Spain
Panicked swimmers were left scrambling to get out of the water over the weekend on the popular tourist island of Mallorca as a huge shark turned up just metres from the shoreline at Cala Mondragó.
The weather was gloriously sunny and the packed beach was stunned when the beast appeared to lazily circle in the shallows before swimming back out to sea.
A lifeguard on duty at the beach ordered everyone out of the water and although the event caused quite a bit of excitement, it was all over in a matter of minutes.
Official sources believe a strong swell pushed the shark into the bay on the south coast of Mallorca and that it became disorientated, but it quickly made its way back out to deeper waters without incident.
Witnesses described what appeared to be a blue shark measuring about a metre and a half in length.
