ARCHIVED - First 1,200 schoolteachers to receive Covid jabs in Murcia on Sunday
40,000 primary and secondary school teachers are to receive their jabs in the coming months
An important new phase of the mass coronavirus vaccination campaign in the Region of Murcia is scheduled to get under way on Sunday, when 1,200 schoolteachers will receive their first jabs of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the Palacio de los Deportes in the regional capital.
The regional Health minister, Juan José Pedreño, explained this week that although the ideal procedure would be for teachers to be vaccinated at their workplace, this minimizing the inconvenience caused to them, for logistical reasons the program will begin with their being summoned to large centres. The task which begins on Sunday is a large one as there are close to 40,000 primary and secondary school teachers entitled to the Astra Zeneca vaccine, and those working in infant and primary education have been placed at the front of the queue.
The vaccination programme will roll-out gradually over the coming weeks as supplies are made available. Police, Protección Civíl, Firemen, Pharmacists and other groups which have high levels of exposure to the public, are all being gradually vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
