ARCHIVED - Four arrested from suspected drugs boat which exploded out to sea in Almeria
Police have arrested four people on suspicion of drug trafficking in Almeria in Andalucia.
Following a crackdown on drug trafficking between Spain and North Africa, police arrested four people following a high speed boat chase off the coast of Almeria.
The incident took place at around 4 am on Friday morning (May 14) when officers from the National Police and Customs Surveillance team came across a suspected drugs boat sailing towards the coast of Almeria.
Police became involved in a high-speed chase before an explosion was heard in one of the engines of the inflatable boat, leaving two on board with injuries which police say are not serious.
Emergency services were called to bring the boat to Almeria port where an ambulance met the suspects to treat the two men who had been injured.
In La Linea in Andalucia, police have faced nights of riots after two supsected drug runners drowned this week, leaving officers accused of not doing enough to rescue the men.
